Introducing Simon...

All of our team are thrilled to welcome Simon as the newest specialist to join our mechanical restoration department. After 16 years in the motor industry, latterly including 8 years in motor sport, it is now time to change gear and join the slightly more subdued world of Fiennes Restoration.

In Simon we have gained not only a breadth of automotive knowledge but also a wealth of expertise in pre-war and early classic era race cars. Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing, Ferrari 250 GTO & Lusso, Lamborghini Miura, Frazier Nash chain drives, GN, Aston Martin DB4 GT, and Porsche 911 RS are just a few of the cars he has worked on along the way. When the owner of an Iso Grifo A3C (which Simon completely restored and ran for two race seasons) first heard Simon would no longer be running the car his next words were “Right then, I better sell it”.

At the Mille Miglia in 2008 Simon ran a Maserati A6GCS for a customer and remembers the experience fondly. The stories are well worth hearing but we will let Simon tell you himself. While you’re at it don’t forget to ask him about his highlight of the race season: Portimão Historic Algarve in October. Those who have experienced it will agree that it is one of the best.

Since coming aboard Simon wasted no time in learning the ropes and, among other work, has been involved in a major engine overhaul on an early Phantom II as well as work a Bentley Mk 6 'Woody' shooting brake, allowing him to demonstrate clearly what a formidable engineer he is. The reputation he built up over his years in motor sport was a strong one: thorough, detailed, dedicated, meticulous, friendly and straight talking – all qualities essential in our restoration department. We are lucky to have him with us and we look forward to the possibilities going forwards.
