The Fiennes Restoration marquee was a busy feature at this year’s RREC Annual Rally. We brought a beautiful Derby Bentley Owen Sedanca by Gurney Nutting and a stunning Phantom 2 to showcase our recent coach building achievements amnd skills. Much of our workforce came to the show and chatted with customers. The tent filled up on both Saturday and Sunday in spite of the weather’s best efforts to dampen down proceedings. One customer commented “The atmosphere in this tent is the most warm and welcoming of the lot”. Seeing so many customers and enthusiasts looking at photos of our new premises, marvelling at sample parts made by our team of highly skilled machinists, and discussing the precision our engineers pride themselves on, made the whole event an absolute pleasure.

Will Fiennes Chatting to a customer

Customers popped in and out throughout the day, picked up parts orders, discussed their cars with staff, and arranged to visit us in Oxfordshire. They also had the opportunity to meet members of the team from those serving wine and canapés on the door, to our company’s founder Will Fiennes who was busily chatting to as many people as possible each day. Mr Fiennes also made time to give a technical seminar to Club members on Saturday. A packed tent of enthusiasts listened intently to his talk on the cooling systems of the small horse power Rolls-Royce and Derby Bentleys.

The talk focussed on the improvements and modifications that can be made to improve the distribution and flow of the coolant, engine temperature control, radiator types and radiator mountings and the choice and maintenance of an appropriate coolant/anti-freeze compatible with older engines.

After the seminar Mr Fiennes said: “It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to speak to so many interested people, I just hope my words were informative and will be of some use.”

Peter Baylis, of Clanfield Coachbuilding, with who mwe work closely to rebuild and restore our cars’ ash frames and produce stunning interior woodwork, came along with us. It was a great opportunity to show off our close working relationship which stretches back over decades and how proud we are of this. Peter said “I really enjoy working with Fiennes. We’ve been working together for more years than I dare to count and I’ve enjoyed every single one”. On Sunday Peter had a great day helping to judge the Rolls-Royce 20/25 category for this year.
