Fiennes features on BBC Radio 2

On Wednesday 9th January Will Fiennes took to the airwaves as a guest on Radio 2’s prime time show, Drivetime, with Simon Mayo. The BBC contacted world-renowned expert Will Fiennes to find out more about the history of the Rolls-Royce Wraith and Silver Wraith; Will spoke with Simon describing the beauty of pre-war coachwork and engineering.

Although the pre-war Wraith is a relatively rare car, with only 491 built before the outbreak of the second world war, Fiennes Restoration has been privileged to work on a considerable number of them over its 32 year history. As well as restoring the mechanical aspects and coachwork of the Wraith, the company also manufactures a large number of parts for this car, as well as for many other models, from the Silver Ghost to the 25/30 Rolls-Royce.

When asked by Simon Mayo, what car he would most like to work on, Will said there was such an array of fantastic cars he would find it difficult to choose. However, when pushed for his favourite by Simon Mayo, Will described the stunning Bentley Embiricos which he had the privilege to work on at Fiennes Restoration. The Embiricos is a 1938 4.25L Bentley with a unique body by the French coachbuilder Pourtout and takes it name from the Greek racing driver who first owned it. It was built to test aerodynamics, reaching speeds of over 110 mph when tested at Brooklands. After the second world war it also raced at Le Mans in France, in 1949 and 1950. This unique car is a testament to the ingenuity and skill of pre-war engineering and design, something that Will Fiennes and his team of experts at Fiennes Restoration are dedicated to maintaining and preserving for the enjoyment of owners today and future generations.
